The Msgr. Carl J. Denti Foundation,Inc

Monsignor Carl J. Denti was born in Rome, New York to Albert Denti and Elvira Feata Denti on June 19, 1912. He graduated from St. Aloysius in Rome where he acquired the nickname of ‘Woods Denti.” He attended Syracuse University and then graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a Masters Degree in Education.

He was ordained a priest on June 6, 1942 by Bishop Walter A Foery and celebrated his first Mass at St. John the Baptist Church in Rome.

His assignments included: Camp Assumption, Fourth Lake, NY; St Cecilia, Solvay, NY; Our Lady of Pompeii, Syracuse, NY; St. Anthony of Padua, Cortland, NY; St. Anthony of Padua, Utica, NY from January 1971 until his retirement. On December 14, 1971 he was invested as a Monsignor.

In June 1972 the Knights of St. John International, St. Anthony of Padua Commandery #385 started the Big Red Open Golf Tournament. It is still an annual event, but is now named “The Denti Foundation Golf Classic.”

In 1984 Msgr. Denti was appointed New York Grand Spiritual Director with the rank of Colonel, and on May 7, 1987 he was invested as Supreme Spiritual Director with the rank of Brigadier General. Monsignor was very instrumental in many of the great happenings at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Utica and the Knights of St. John International, St. Anthony of Padua Commandery #385.

After his retirement Msgr. Denti donated $500 to the Knights of St. John and the Knights decided to match his gift and start the Monsignor Carl J. Denti Foundation, Inc. The Denti Foundation is a private non-profit, charitable organization founded in 1994 for the purpose of assisting the mentally and physically handicapped. The criteria for consideration for a grant from Foundation are that the donee be physically or mentally disabled. All decisions, as to eligibility and grants, are the sole discretion of the Foundation, and its decisions are final.

Monies are raised for the Foundation by purchasing Msgr. Denti Foundation cards, sponsored and distributed by the Knights of St. John Commandery International, St. Anthony of Padua Commandery #385. The donee is remembered during masses celebrated monthly at    St.Anthony St Agnes Church. on the first Saturday of each month at the 4 O’clock mass

To date The Foundation has donated over $370,000 to assist the physically and mentally disabled.
